The Italy legend wants to hang up his gloves following the 2018 World Cup in Russia, bringing his illustrious carrer to a an end. The Juventus and Italy shot-stopper, who has just turned 38, believes his career which has seen him lift trophies with both country and club must come to an end at 40. Buffon has played for Italy 154 times and made his debut in 1997. He played in 5 FIFA World Cups.

The incredible goalkeeper played for Italy when they won the World Cup in 2006 after a staggering match against France. They won 4-3 on penalties in Germany. Recently the legendary goalkeeper admitted that his next major tournament - which will take place in two years - might be his last one. 'I want to make the next FIFA World Cup, but it may be the perfect time to close the door', he said.

Buffon started his carrer at Parma and joined Juventus in 2001. Since arriving at one of the best teams in Italy, he played for more than 550 times and helped the club win 6 Serie A titles.

The Perfect Time to Retire

At 38, Buffon is still a great goalkeeper and he moved to the Old Lady in 2001 for a record fee. The perfect moment to end his career will be the 6th World Cup for him. The statement was given when he picked up the Sportsman of the Year award from Gianni Brera.

Gianluigi Buffon also referred to the Ballon d'Or prizes which took place recently, and he showed indignation at being taken off from the shortlist. "I certainly deserved to be up there [in the Ballon d'Or, yet I knew it'd be impossible to actually win something", he said. he admitted that he was taken by surprise.

The veteran also talked about Juventus recently. He mentioned that his team is enjoying an incredible spell right now, as nobody can have 11 straight wins if they are not at their best mentally and physically. "We need to be very careful, as all runs will come to an end at some point. We will do our best to extend this form as long as possible."

His Plan - Reiterated

The news about Gianluigi Buffon's retirement appeared in January, 2016, be in an interview with So Foot Magazine, Buffon confirmed that he will retire in 2 years and it will not be any different. If he makes it to the next World Cup in Russia he would actually be the first-ever football player to take part in 5 World Cups during a career. One of the best goalkeepers in the world will put an end to his career. He will hang up his boots and gloves and call it a career.

He will probably show off his skills at this year's Euro 2016.
